Shane Patrick Victorino (born November 30, 1980), nicknamed "The Flyin' Hawaiian", is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He was primarily a switch-hitter until the 2013 season, when discomfort from various hamstring, back, and knee problems forced him to become an exclusively right-handed batter.

Long before Shane Victorino gained fame as a Gold Glove center fielder, All-Star, and World Series champion with the Philadelphia Phillies, he was a precocious child on the island of Maui, frustrating teachers with his inability to sit still and tagging along with older boys to neighborhood ball fields. For Victorino, diagnosed at an early age with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, sports became an ideal outlet for his boundless energy. As the first Maui native ever to appear in a World Series, Victorino played an integral role in giving his team, and the city of Philadelphia, a memory for the ages. In Shane Victorino: The Flyin' Hawaiian, readers will find the compelling story of a young man whose persistence and determination helped him overcome obstacles and emerge victorious at the highest level of his profession.

Great story about the "little guy" (little only as a professional, actually he's built quite well) and the inside of working up the MLB ladder from bottom to top.....wonder how many guys quit this extreme regimen.....I was in the Army....basic training is only 8 weeks.....in Professional Baseball it is years.....

Shane's desire with very encouraging helps from a few friends both coaches and personal family friends helped him cope with just more than the extremes of Professional Sports but his lifetime battle to stay focused on keeping his ADHD heart and head under control....I know, I have the same "condition"......that's right folks, only a condition which I know can work for all of us "ADHD" people in that when we focus on a certain subject or action we probably often have the advantage over our opponents, in my case wrestling in high school (unbeaten/untied and Judo followed by Ju-Jitsu while in Korea in the Army....found it extremely easy to focus on those things in life I was good at.

My progression in my sports of wrestling and martial arts was much faster than my contemporaries; the glory, however, goes to GOD from whom all blessings come.

So, this is my advice, especially to the "ADHD" community; BUY THE BOOK!!! A real guy with extreme perserverence who has prevailed and arrived at the top of the game as a center fielder for the Phillies as well as one of the better hitters from both sides of the plate and his growing body muscle is turning out more home runs "not your norm for a "little guy" who could have been an olympic track star.

Great book. Shane is my favorite player and this is a very inspirational book. Shows that you can do anything you set your mind to do but it does take hard work and persistence. Hope Shane ends up in the Hall of Fame.

What can you say? If you are a Phillies fan you eat up stuff like this, but of course the results on the field are needed too. So long, Shane~!!
