Eric Jerome Dickey has penned a book of murder and mayhem that is surprisingly empathetic to the killer Gideon. This is a great urban series by Eric Jerome Dickey with a little something for everyone. As Gideon's early life is revealed, it becomes easy to see how he became a cold blooded killer. I never thought I would ever understand the twisted mind of a killer, but Dickey has accomplished that huge task. It has some action, mystery/crime, drama and romance that will attract both men and women. It will have you on the edge of your seat and wanting to know what happens next.

Eric Jerome Dickey (born July 7, 1961) is a New York Times best-selling American author best known for his novels about contemporary African-American life. He is also known for writing several crime novels involving grifters, ex cons, and assassins, the latter novels having more diverse settings, moving from Los Angeles to the United Kingdom to the West Indies, each having an international cast of characters.

Resurrecting Midnight book. and so does Eric Jerome Dickey! Like all the novels in the Gideon series (Sleeping With Strangers, Waking With Enemies, Dying for Revenge), Dickey's latest is a first-rate story; an explosive, nerve-tingling page-turner. After nearly losing his life in Antigua during a mission that went terribly wrong, Gideon trusts no one. But when a former lover, a grifter named Arizona, resurfaces in need of his skills, she reminds him he is indebted to a man who had once saved his life: the son of the legendary con man Scamz. Gideon is forced to take on an assignment that will lead him to Argentina in pursuit of a briefcase containing one part of a larger puzzle. The “package” contains material that another group of assassins―the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse―will kill for to obtain and protect. One of the leaders of the Four Horsemen has a connection to Gideon of which neither man is aware―a connection that will be exposed when they meet face-to-face and gun-to-gun. Each member of the Four Horsemen is a world-class killer, each with a dark and dangerous past, and nothing will stop that team of renegades from completing their mission. But will a cunning woman be their undoing?

In this world of killers, con men, and manipulative women, Gideon struggles to keep promises and uncover information about his past. He soon finds himself at the center of the ultimate double cross and is forced to do what he must in order to protect himself and those closest to him. Set amid the exotic and vibrant streets of Miami and Buenos Aires, Resurrecting Midnight is a seductive, pulse-pounding thriller.

SPOLIER ALERT, DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK.
I loved the book, it was enticing, adventurous, full of excitement. The 4 star is given only because you get a little lost keeping up with all the movement that's going on in the book. The way EJD brought back all the characters was amazing. But I was very disappointed to see that he killed off Alvin, the Russian already had cancer, he has one foot in the grave, so why not him? I kept waiting and expecting the book to take a turn and for Alvin to return under some type of witness protection program, but it wasn't so. It was truly the saddest part about the entire story. Now the cliffhanger was nice, I'm excited to see what's going to happen with Gideon's Twin Brother...., and who Gideon's dad is, so EJD, please don't make us wait 8 years for the next one.

Gideon is at it again only this time, Arizona resurfaces with a mission for him to go on for some package as a debt owed to her boyfriend Scamz Jr for saving his life in London. Well Arizona and Scamz Jr isn't the only ones out for the package, here enter's the 4 horsemen and the apocolypse. With the horsemen is Medianoche a*k*a Midnight, the man Gideon thought he killed when he was a child. Then you have someone trying to blackmail Gideon in the process for 2.5 million.

I enjoyed the book a lot, but I was a little bit confused on the origin on this package. They said it was the money that former President Bush stashed and somehow loss so it was up for grabs with the data being stored in these briefcases. You had to have both of them to recieve the pay day. Other than the pacakge drama, the words and different languages used intrigued me like no other. I love words and love learning new things which I believe is what EDJ is hoping to accomplish with these books. I learned pieces of history and other stuff I never knew about.

I hope that Gideon left Medianoche alive for the soul purpose of wanting to get to know him. Things are about to come out with this man still breathing. Medianoche learned of betrayal by his bestfriend /step brother, The Beast, who was head of the horsemen. With that tid bit being spilled, it's only going to get worse before it get's better. I hope they join forces.

I think Gideon should forget about Arizona and make Hawks his ride or die chic. Arizona revealed in some ways that she loves Gideon, but she's with her ex-lover, Scamsz son, Scamsz Jr. While that may be what it looks like to Gideon, something is telling me that Scamsz Jr is holding something over Arizona's head. Scam Jr did have his own grandfather and uncle killed, so it wouldn't surprise me not one bit.

Another interesting thing, is that the entire time I'd been reading this series, I assumed Gideon was 100% black, so there's some mystery there too.

As usual, can't wait for the next installment, should be fire with Medianoche and Senora Raven on the loose on top of the other things that were revealed. Great job EJD!!! I hated to see the book come to an end.

OMG!!!! I don't even know where to begin. Gideon is the new James Bond/Jason Bourne with a whole hella LOT more sex appeal. I agree with the previous poster. I am in love with Gideon. I just want to bring him home and rescue him from all the violence, lies, destruction and cheats he has in his life. EJD has elevated his writing to a level that leaves me spellbound. I also agree that this series needs to be a movie. I hope he's getting some offers....EJD send the book to Oprah.lol NEways needless to say Gideon is back in all his sexy hitman glory and that wench Arizona is back too. I hope he gets over his infatuation with her.....I agree with Hawks..."she's just a woman." I'm glad to see the boxer and Constantine from D4R back, but I'd really like to have a Lola/Miss Jones reunion:-).
Please run don't walk to get this book.

I can say that I enjoyed this book better than "Dying For Revenge." Dickey has done a great job of bringing back old characters, introducing new characters and creating a tightly woven story that takes place with what seems like a ton of sub-plots. To be able to pull it all together and not be at all confusing is a talent within itself.

I would say for any fan of the Gideon series should continue the journey with this book. HOWEVER, I do have one major sticking point with this book and it carries over from Dying For Revenge. It seems as though Dickey has replaced all of the over-sexed chapters from the first 2 books with tons of geographical, trivia-based information that does not in my opinion serve the plot. Many times I felt like I was reading a Wikipedia insert in the middle of the story because it feels more "academic" than just a natural description/progression of the plot, characters, etc. It seemed this approach was not as heavy-handed in the first 2 books. I like supplemental info when its a value-add, but in many cases it really stalls the pacing of the book. Many of these books would be even better if they were 40-75 pages less without the filler things (i.e. geography, miscellaneous cultural history of areas, foreign language entries that are immediately translated, etc.)

**POSSIBLE SPOILER**
One other observation that was very "unGideon-like" was that normally all of the killers are cold-blooded and for some reason there are a lot of instances where the assassins let a person live and its very different than the approach that the previous books had. I found it to be very odd to say the least.

Overall it was a great effort and apart from the pacing and some of the questionable actions the book is a quality addition to the series...VA

My favorite author. 2nd time reading. I buy his books for my kindle and i buy the hard backs. I just hate he spent more time describing the different places in detail rather than giving the readers what the came back for....and that's Gideon. However you will know all the streets names structures shopping centers airports alleys tunnels subway stations hotels etc
