Nicci French Secret Smile To Patrick and Norma CHAPTER 1 I've had a dream recently, the same dream, over and over again, and each time I think it's real. I'm back at the ice rink on the afternoon I first met Brendan. The cold stings my face, I can hear the scrape of the blades on the ice and then I see him. He's glancing over at me with that funny look of his, as if he's noticed me and he's got something else on his mind. Читать онлайн Secret Smile. It was one of my old diaries. Secret Smile by Nicci French.

Author: Nicci French. When Miranda Cotton finds her boyfriend Brendan reading her diary, she breaks off the relationship.

Miranda’s sister, Kerri, has a new boyfriend. He’s a raven-haired, handsome charmer who seems to dote on Kerri. But Brendan isn’t the man he says he is. Miranda should know, because she broke off her own affair with him just a few weeks ago when she found him reading her diary.

Now Brendan claims that it was he who ended their short-lived relationship―and everyone believes him. When he and Kerri announce their engagement, Miranda’s parents are thrilled for their shyer, less confident daughter. Then Kerri and Brendan beg Miranda to let them live in her apartment until their new home is ready. Against her better judgment, Miranda agrees.

Like a virus, Brendan starts spreading destruction throughout her life. He invades her privacy and disrupts her relationships with her family and friends. And then the real nightmare begins.…

Like the obscenities he whispers into her ear, his onslaughts are as undetectable as they are devastating. Those closest to her begin to doubt her mental stability and accuse her of the very thing she believes drives Brendan: obsession. When Miranda decides to take off the gloves, fight back, and discover what is behind her enemy’s bemused, secret smile, the consequences will be terrifying.

Every woman should be educated on how sociopaths operate. They, according to THE MASK OF SANITY, can fool anyone including psychiatrists, forensic analysts and in this novel even the police. Who should ABSOLUTELY KNOW BETTER. For you who have daughters I recommend you educate yourself and then educate them. Poor Miranda, NO ONE believed her! I knew almost from the first descriptive sentence that he was evil. How easily we are fooled! Aside from these comments I felt this was a good read and was completely blindsided with the ending! I gave this four stars because I couldn't believe how stupid the police presence was.
Addendum: I just found what looks like a very helpful book in addition to THE MASK OF SANITY. THE SOCIOPATH NEXT DOOR by Martha Stout. Available here at Amazon.

I LOVE HER STYLE OF WRITING, I HAVE READ EVERYTHING SHE HAS WRITTEN. THIS IS DEFINATELY HER WORST BOOK. THERE WERE SO MANY THINGS ABOUT THE PLOT THAT WERE JUST PLAIN STUPID. IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING FROM JERRY SPRINGER. THREE WOMAN WHO ARE CLOSE TO EACH OTHER ALL GO OUT WITH THE SAME GUY. TWO OF THEM AGREE TO MARRY THIS GUY IN A MATTER OF WEEKS. THEN THE MAIN CHARACTER MIRANDA GETS TALKED INTO LETTING THIS PSYCHO MOVE IN WITH HER. WHEN THINGS GET REALLY BAD SHE DOESN'T EVEN TELL THEM TO MOVE OUT SHE IS THE ONE THAT MOVES. OK SO SHE FINALLY GETS THIS GUY OUT OF HER LIFE AND WHAT DOES SHE DO. TRACKS HIM DOWN AND PULLS HIM BACK INTO HER LIFE!! THEN THERE IS AN INCIDENT IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM WHERE THE POLICE LET THE LAWYER OF THE ACCUSED INTO HER CUBICLE TO YELL AT HER ABOUT WHAT A LIAR SHE IS. THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN. IT GOES ON AND ON. ALMOST EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PLOT IS RIDICULOUS. IF YOU WANT TO READ A REALLY GOOD BOOK BY HER GET "KILLING ME SOFTLY". I WOULDN'T BOTHER TO READ THIS ONE.

This book stays in your mind. It's a story about an average girl who meets what seems to be a nice guy. But he's not. Her situation spins so out of control that the reader thinks that there's no way she can get her life back to normal. If you've been, or know someone who is, in an abusive relationship - the story is chilling. The story reminds us all that there are truly evil people in the world, and that the next person we meet could be that person.

I recommend this book all the time, and pick up copies to give as gifts. It was one of the first I put on my Kindle. I DO NOT recommend the awful movie made from the book.

I enjoyed this book, but had real difficulty imagining a plot like this playing out in real life. A guy hopping around from lover to lover - all of whom happen to be in the same circle and it being accepted by family and friends seems a bit unbelievable. After a while the reader just finds him/herself waiting for a resolution. As an American some of the language required frequent usage of the dictionary to uncover special meanings. This is a decent read, but it just doesnt seem real. Fiction should have a grain of reality.

This was a super creepy page turner. I was hooked from the first sentence. French knows how to build suspense and keep you engaged throughout. I have to say, though, that this novel didn't really stay with me after I finished it. It's a great airplane book or vacation book, but it doesn't have the depth of her Frieda Klein books. If you're looking for a fun thriller, though, this is it.

The husband/wife writing team that is billed as "Nicci French" was the perfect team to construct this intense, shocking story of romantic obsession. Why? Well, because the two main characters are a man and a woman, and we get to know both of them very, very well. The double-gendered authors get the inner workings of both the male and female minds exactly right. The novel's gimmick is simple: after their break-up, one member of a young British couple begins to stalk, torment, and threaten the other--but exactly who is doing what to whom? That's a good question, and the answer (and the ultimate solution to the problem) will surprise and disturb you.

I've read all the Nicci French books now, and this hypnotic little gem is my hands-down favorite. You may never look at your loved ones in the same way again. Enjoy (but leave the lights on!).

The book was well written, however the plot was disturbing because it was frustrating for the reader to know something bad was going to happen and the police seemed incapable of trusting the victims' requests for help.

I was annoyed by the stupidity of the characters. I don't mind reading books about imperfect people but the 'heroine' of the story and her family are just plain stupid.
