Nicky Pellegrino writes novels that take her readers to Italy. Her stories are filled with food, friendship, love and the kinds of people who will feel like they’re your friends. More novels by Nicky. I have a soft spot for Nicky Pellegrino's books, having Italian heritage I can relate to the "drama" that is a part of being Italian: the passion, the family traditions, the focus on food. Mcvalens on Goodreadsfor The Villa Girls. Makes we want to cook and eat Italian food and dine in an olive grove every day. sigh.

Born in 1964, Nicky Pellegrino is of Italian origin and is married to a New Zealander. She has worked on women's magazines and recently ghost-wrote a bestselling autobiography of Angela d'Audney, a well-known New Zealand broadcaster. The descriptions of food in the book were delicious, and made me drool. The author describes Italy beautifully, creating in me a longing to visit the place immediately. I liked the author's style of writing, too.

This was the first time I've read a book written by Nicky Pellegrino. The story is quite simple. Girl lives in a small village in Italy and has a strict family.

Love, food and Italy - a delicious novel from the author of THE FOOD OF LOVE COOKERY SCHOOL.

Italy, 1964. Maria Domenica is the eldest daughter of Pepina and Erminio Carrozza, a farming family from the tiny southern village of San Giulio. At sixteen, Maria's life is limited to the confines of her mother's rural kitchen - where she bakes bread every morning, the way the Carrozza women always have - and the Caffe Angeli, a place of friendship, strong espresso and famous ricotta sfolgliatelle. Her parents have high hopes for their beautiful first-born, but she has other plans. Maria runs away to Rome but, one year later, she returns to San Giulio in disgrace - eight months pregnant with the identity of the father a mystery. Hastily, shamefully, she is married off to a neighbour's son. But she soon escapes again, this time to England, where she searches once more for a new life for herself and her daughter, Chiara. Many years later, it is Chiara, not Maria, who finds herself drawn back to San Giulio - to the dusty little piazza, to the enticing aromas of the Caffe Angeli and to her long-lost family. But she soon discovers that the simple Italian life she seeks is not as simple as it seems - particularly where the past is concerned. DELICIOUS is an irresistible saga - written with all the freshness and warmth of a Carrozza family recipe - about the enduring love affair between Italy and England, about three very different generations of Italian women, and an old kitchen in Campania that binds them all together.

This goes down as the fastest I have ever read a novel. I began reading this book 4 days ago and I just finished. I think I read 180 pages in the first sitting. Smith really knows how to write an engaging novel. I am not surprised by this after reading his first novel, "Moist", in a rather short period of time as well.

Just like "Moist" the characters in the novel really drive the entire thing. They are twisted people with problems. Drug problems, sex problems, girl problems, every problem you can think of, cranked up to 11, hilarious problems. The characters all end up coming together in hilarious, unthinkable ways and it is fascinating to read how Smith is able to bring together all of these very colorful people.

There were several laugh out loud moments throughout. Each chapter is divided up into scenes that are quite short, like a camera that continually changes angle or switches across town to check in on the action of the other characters. Right from the beginning we are taken on a non stop action ride and there is very little space for the reader to take a break. Once you start you don't want to stop reading, you can't, what is going to happen next? There were a few times that I guessed the actions that would occur and nothing was ruined by the fact that I was right, it was made even better by the snide commentary, wicked humor and beautifully descriptive way that the scene's were brought to life.

To sum it up in as few words as possible I was say this book is engaging, hilarious, twisted, sordid, sexy and entertaining as hell.

This was quite fun. All the flavor of Hiaason, but in Hawaii and with far more sexual situations. Good characters, good story, good ending--I will be adding Mr. Smith to my list of authors whose books I shall buy.

"Delicious" is indeed the best description for this charming novel by Nicky Pellegrino of Auckland, New Zealand. Tuck in and be prepared to be swept away to a small town in Italy near Naples where family and conformity are everything, and lovingly prepared food trumps all. You'll fall in love with a young daughter of the town who decides to escape the ties that bind and sally forth into the world. Unheard of! Disaster strikes, but with a strength she could not have imagined she makes a new life for herself in a way and in a place she would never have dreamed of. Her very English daughter is left to complete the circle of tragedy and triumph in a way that will have you cheering and laughing and crying with every steamed artichoke, every bite of spaghetti con vongole, and every aromatic whiff of espresso. The characters are real and compelling. Pellegrino writes with assurance and grace and keeps the story moving, with surprises that keep it fresh to the end. If you loved Karla Clarks' "Between Courses," you'll love "Delicious" too. What a delight to find this treasure of a first novel!

Delicious made for a nice light read, suitable for a lazy day. The characters were quite likeable. The descriptions of food in the book were delicious, and made me drool. The author describes Italy beautifully, creating in me a longing to visit the place immediately. I liked the author's style of writing, too. That said, the plot seemed to be kind of weak. Some twists and turns in the book felt like they had been forcibly thrown in, though I had to admit that some others were quite good.

Overall, this wasn't the best light read I have experienced so far, but it was not all bad. I am definitely going to read more by Nicky Pellegrino.

An enjoyable read in complete Nicky Pellegrino style! A saga that takes you to beautiful parts of Rome, with a reminder of the importance of family.

Loved the food and characters and Italy! Enjoyable book.

Mark Haskell Smith is like Elmore Leonard on speed, only funnier. Both "Moist" and "Delicious" are immensively creative, hysterical (in the comic sense) romps. I can't wait for his next one.
