The Inside LightWave 3D books are a great resource. They are easy to read an offer a lot of great tips and tricks as well as a solid educational foundation. LightWave is a complex program but it is not impossible to learn. The cuurent version of LightWave is 11, however there is little difference in how 10 and 11 work. I recommend this book.

This is the second Inside Lightwave book I have purchased. I also had bought 'Inside Lightwave [6]' years ago and thought it was a great, even indispensible tool for not only learning Lightwave, but also, for picking up techniques I didn't even realize I should know.

'Inside Lightwave [8]' surpasses, even that edition. It's loaded with so much material, both in text and on the DVD-ROM, it's going to take me months to get through it and every minute of that is going to be fun. I've gone through a few chapters already and I really enjoy the tone of the book. It's not dry, it doesn't rush you, and it maintains a perfect balance between not assuming too much from the reader and not being condescending. It appears that author Dan Ablan performed the tutorials as he was writing them, thus enabling him to cover the steps thoroughly and anticipate pitfalls a novice user might fall into.

It is obvious that Dan Ablan really cares about Lightwave and its users. It shows in every sentence in the book and throughout the DVD-ROM. He is also an active participant in the discussion forums and offers Lightwave classes.

If only all software books and manuals were written with such care and thoroughness as this. Thank you Mr. Ablan.

I have many books on the subject of Lightwave... this one rates at the top of my list... In fact I have every 'Inside Lightwave' book since the origonal ... 'Inside Lightwave 3D that covered Lightwave version 5.6...

This one covering Lightwave version 8 is the best tutorial book one that Dan has done yet...

Very easy to follow style... the tutorials are clear without being dry.. Dan even gives us some advanced information in most of the tutorials that allows you to tap into some of the new features of Lightwave 8... One of the things I find interesting is Dan himself has obviously changed in his way of working in Lightwave as some of the ways he is doing things in this book are completely different approaches than the ways he did them in previous books... such as his modeling of a character using Spline Curves is a different direction than in his previous works... and certainly show some of the benifits to using that method of modeling over other forms...

His tutorial on Partical Dynamics really got me over some hurdles I was having understanding their use ... sometimes you never know where you will pickup that one little explaination that makes it work... Dan had several of those in his this book for me...

Thanks Mr. Ablan!

I certainly am pleased with my purchase of this book and will be using it as a reference for sometime to come...

Dan has written a geat book for the Lightwave 8 user. The quick-start chapter is a great idea and will have everyone up and running in an hour or so. The writing style is easy to understand and conveys the information eloquently. Each chapter, there are 21, is <,= to 50 pages so you could read a chapter a day and in 3 weeks have a very thorough understanding of L8, and 3D in general. The DVD contains scene files and a few hours of tutorials that are also very helpful. Recommended

I love all of the Inside Lightwave books, but my favorite so far has been Inside Lightwave 7! That is the only one to cover expressions and motion mixer and endomorphs. This one however has lots of modeling tutorials (which I would expect considering all the additions to Modeler in Lightwave 8).

Hello I am a begginner in lightwave and I bought this book to help me understand this program and begin my journey in to 3d animation. Unfourtunatley if your a beginner you might as well start looking for another book. It is packed with knowledge no doubt! But if your like me, a novice trying to teach your self the ropes of lightwave, this book is not for u. It covers alot of ground and assumes that the reader has got a firm grasp of the program already. I know how to model and animate at the stage I am at, all I wanted to learn was Inverse kinematics for advanced animation capabilites( character animation ..ect) but unless u already have an idea of how to go about using these tools this book is not very helpful. It lacks coherent tutorials, its like were justed droped into the middle of a project and we have to catch up (its VERY a strange set up). I feel let down, maybe if i were a pro and i was trying to figure out the best way of doing something it would be great, but this book is NOT for beginners.

This book is it! If you want to learn Lightwave in a nice set pace--this book is a must! I have bought Dan's signature courseware for Lightwave 8, and this book compliments the series perfectly!
On its own--this book is a treasure! If you have Lightwave--do yourself a favor and get this book RIGHT NOW!

Nicely laid out and good content. The video sections are very useful. Working and learning within a project (Object + Animation) was very useful. No regretting in buying at all.
