The author finds a way to make every story in the Breed Series new, inthralling, and forwarding the Breed history in a way that doesn't leave you hanging. You look forward to the next book like opening presents. Each story is a gift and is satisfying in its own right. It is still better to read series in order because she builds her characters with each book and adds depth to them. By reading in order you know alot of them well from prior books. How she keeps them all straight and in character is amazing. I don't like telling a review of the story because it spoils your enjoyment. Simply put Breeds were made in labs with a mix of human and animal DNA and used as lab rats, tortured, and forced to believe they had no rights. They escaped and are trying to track down other labs or enslaved breeds while building a Breed society. They have to balance politics, develop safe living environments, while not letting the human world know how powerful they are. Each story concentrates on one couple and their unique story and the development of the society.

I'm all for hot sexy romance and sex scenes, especially from Leigh, but this was (I can't believe I'm saying this) gross. Exhibitionism, threesome, too much spanking..ugh. Not your usual LL stuff. TOO much.

And did anyone else but me think that Scheme was a little, well, slutty? She liked spankings, even though her father beat her, she felt excited when she found out Tanner watched her with other guys (which I personally think is so not sexy, that the "hero" watched the "heroine" with other guys) - and I had a huge issue with her lying. I just didn't like her, she was so conceited and demanding.

I usually LOVE LL's stuff, but this was like Maya Banks. Way over the top.

The characters were ok and other plot developments were ok, but on balance, I wouldn't recommend it unless the reader is in love with the series. The characters and sex scenes were very similar to other breed books.

This is Book 2 of The Breed series which is an offshoot of the Feline Breeds series. The Genetics Council used genetic experimentation to create humans with animal DNA, called Breeds. The Breeds were tortured, experimented upon and kept in captivity, but eventually escaped. The Council and other groups are trying to capture and/or kill them.

Jonas is a breed. He is head of the federal dept. of breed affairs. Scheme is human. She is daughter of Cyrus who is a member of the Genetics Council. Scheme hates Cyrus and becomes a spy for Jonas. Scheme continues to work for her father, but thwarts many of his activities against the breeds over a several year period. Tanner is a bengal breed who works for Jonas. They know that Cyrus has a spy among the breeds, but they don't know who it is. Tanner doesn't know that Scheme is working for Jonas. Tanner kidnaps her with the intent of getting evidence from her and turning her over to the Breed Council for punishment.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Tanner saves Scheme from being killed by an assassin sent by her father, which is the beginning of his doubts that she is evil and in league with Cyrus. During the several days of the kidnapping captivity, Tanner falls in love with her and wants to help her, but she won't communicate because she thinks Tanner might be a spy for Cyrus. If I had been in her place, I would have at least told Tanner that Scheme suspected Tanner might be a spy, and until she knew the truth she wouldn't trust him or cooperate. Instead she was silent, and he sensed that she was lying. This was the major conflict for 2/3 of the story. This is one of my pet peeves: conflict created through vague communication and inaccurate assumptions.

My second plot problem: Cyrus wants to kidnap Scheme who is staying at the breed sanctuary. The breeds know Cyrus has a spy among them and that this will happen soon. At an evening function, Scheme secretly leaves her protectors to have a private conversation with one of the women, outside, alone. Of course, the spy comes up, shoots them with a stun gun and carries Scheme off. This was stupid. I would have preferred that the spy come up with an elaborate plan to get Scheme alone (that would foil almost anyone) and not have Scheme do something stupid to get caught.

Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: ten, most several pages long. Setting: 2023 Washington, D.C., Kentucky and Pennsylvania. Copyright: 2007. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

Tanner Reynolds is the resident Breed playboy as well as an important liaison to the outside world. The fact that he is a dangerous Bengal breed deters no female, and Tanner's reputation with the ladies is not exaggerated. Handsome, charming and quick-witted, he is essentially every woman's fantasy rolled into one nicely put together package. And best of all, it is the perfect camouflage for the real Tanner - a man unwillingly yearning for a mate. A mate that he suspects is his and he has watched for years. A mate that is a danger to him and all he holds dear. A mate that has worked with his enemy and caused the death of countless Breeds: Scheme Tallant.

Scheme Tallant has spent years working for her father whose organization has the singular goal of ridding the world of Breeds. Dangerously living on a razor's edge, Scheme has tirelessly worked at foiling her father's plans and counteracting orders to save any Breed marked for death. In fact, with her safety compromised more than once, Scheme realizes that the time for deception is over. When she begins her plan to make her final exit, she does not count on attracting the attention of Tanner Reynolds, liaison to the Breeds and the one man that seems to despise her the most.

Tanner decides that enough is enough and Scheme Tallant must be made to pay for the atrocities done to breeds on her orders. Doing his best to plan her downfall under the nose of the Breed Council as well as her father, Tanner wants no interference when he finally has enough evidence to bring her in and enact Breed Law. He does not anticipate having to take care of an assassin, nor does he grasp that every thing he has ever heard or read about Scheme might not be entirely accurate but a carefully conducted operation. Fate is not playing into his hands however, because once she is within his grasp, Tanner is forced to make a split second decision in order to keep her alive long enough to get her to the breed compound. Tanner steps back and rethinks his plans and does the only thing he can think of at the time; he kidnaps Miss Scheme Tallant and carries her away to a hidden location until he can get to the truth. Trusting no one with her care, Tanner refuses to acknowledge the fact that the woman he has watched and wanted for years might not be the woman he thought she was. It takes one instance of jealousy to bring Tanner's Bengal tiger DNA to the forefront of his feelings for Scheme and once that happens, no one better stand between him and his mate.

The hardest part about reading Tanner's Scheme is the fact that I know there is no way my review can do justice to this book. Having read every breed book written by this extremely talented and prolific writer, I find myself searching for a way to appropriately tell readers how completely and absolutely astounding this story is. Tanner Reynolds is one of the original Pride members introduced in Lora Leigh's first breed novel, Tempting the Beast. Fun loving, naughty, and very sexy, Tanner loves pushing limits- on the outside. On the inside, Tanner is loyal, gentle, and has loved and wanted his mate for years. His yearning for Scheme is apparent in every scene in this book and more than once, I had to sit back and remember to breathe. If Tanner had an outside persona, then Scheme's public persona was just as misconstrued. For all everyone knew, she was scheming, hard, and enjoyed signing Breed death warrants. Underneath, in her heart of hearts, Scheme's heart broke every time she couldn't deter orders from her father and more than once risked life and limb to save the men and women that she secretly cared about. As for Scheme and Tanner's love affair? A match made in mating heaven. Their sexual encounters were hot enough to singe my fingers and made my palms sweat. Each touch, each kiss, each emotion displayed by these two characters is simply magnificent.

Tanner's Scheme is a must read. I highly and joyfully recommend visiting the world of Tanner and Scheme and if you haven't already, visiting and reading the rest of Lora Leigh's Breeds. You will be glad you did. Tanner's Scheme releases on August 7, 2007 and I for one will be first in line to get my print copy.
