With a Single Spell book. With a Single Spell' was maybe the third ever Lawrence Watt-Evans novel I have read

With a Single Spell book. With a Single Spell' was maybe the third ever Lawrence Watt-Evans novel I have read. As a teenager, I read his excellent Misenchanted Sword (when everything was fresh and exciting to me) and maybe 20 years later The Cyborg And The Sorcerer, also pretty decent. So to this one. As with my previous experience of his writing, it is uncomplicated and easily read. This doesn't mean bad, just that you can read it quickly enough.

Ran into the title and thought it would be fun to read again after all of these years. I enjoyed it just as much as I did back when. It is simply a fun book to read. I do wish that there had been just a bit more at the end, but I feel that way about most books I read or movies I see. I usually want to see a little bit of the "happily ever after." I also reread "Misenchanted Sword" by Watt-Evans and also enjoyed it. Some rated these books at a one or two star, but come on guys, these are quick and fun reads. Enjoy.

I have only about a dozen books which I will re-read, and this is one of them. This is a fun book which I have read to myself and loved ones.

The magic in the world's of Laurence Watt-Evans is different from anything you have read. In a word, it is human, with all the quirks you would expect of people.

The people who inhabit this world are also very believable.

Once you get to the magical can opener, you will be hooked.

I bought this book years ago in paper back, lost the book in a move so repurchased It in kindle form. Payed the same money, got much less book. Much was left out of the Kindle version. I was very disappointed.

Very enjoyable. The typical Watt-Evans hero, a bit bumbling, but smarter than he seems. The author has a wry view of heroes and fairy tales, and our hero goes through some Candide-like experiences while triumphing over both a dead wizard and a rather sad, and hungry, dragon.

I enjoyed the idea of the world and the story but it did seem a bit rushed at the end. Development of story and characters would have put it in five star category but that is only my opinion.

I have read this book a few times in my life. Great read with good character development. Good story line.

The prose is fluid and conversational. The story is compelling. The gender dynamics are a little old fashioned. But the female characters are fully fleshed human beings. Good book. You read. You like.
