Nermin Abadan Unat (born 18 September 1921 in Vienna) is a Turkish academician, lawyer, sociologist, writer, and a professor at Boğaziçi University. This paper extends the scarce literature on the existence of ‘missing women’ in the developed world, by providing new micro-evidence regarding the foetal gender-selection decisions of first generation immigrants in the United Kingdom, using data from the 1971-2006 General Household Survey. The analysis shows clear evidence of girl-biased sex-selection among Indian immigrants.
