To say that Jean-Leon Gerome is one of the most famous Orientalists painters of his time, would be an understatement. While he definetely was an adventurous painter, and of a high caliber, specially in his traveling youth, his work tended to soften up a lot in his older years.

To say that Jean-Leon Gerome is one of the most famous Orientalists painters of his time, would be an understatement. One conceivably can imagine the distraction of tackling painting, through official commissions, but also sculpting, and Mosaic as well. Mr Ackermann, an authority on Jean Leon Gerome, did masterfully put together this wonderful volume, and my many thanks to him for that are long overdue.

The Life and Work of Jean-Leon Gerome. great book if you are a fan of gerome very informative and useful in understanding his works i wish it came in a larger format also more examples of his work with contrasts between earlier and later works. 4 people found this helpful.
