David Brunetti is a teacher, musician, and writer in New York City. The great performing artists of the musical theater, including Gwen Verdon, Bert Lahr, Julie Andrews, Barbara Cook, Richard Kiley, Liza Minelli, Betty Buckley, Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin have all had something in common-not only have they all been accomplished to varying degrees as singers and dancers, but they’ve all been organic actors.

Acting Songs - David Brunetti. I get a lot out of watching song writers perform their own material. They’re connected to their songs in a unique way. Here are Kander and Ebb doing All That Jazz.

David Brunetti’s musical ability came easily and naturally

David Brunetti’s musical ability came easily and naturally. He was only 5 when the church gave his family a piano and he immediately sat down and began to pick out songs. Despite his obvious musical talent David wanted to be Al Pacino, so he majored in acting, but although he tried to create a career as an actor he just kept getting jobs as a musical director. He wrote a book about his technique and while based in New York he teaches all over the world.

A book describing a step-by-step process for bringing emotionally-connected, theatrical acting to the singing of songs.

It doesn't matter what kind of performer you are: Singer, rock star, karaoke singer, dancer, fire-eating-unicycle-riding-juggler. If you perform in any way shape or form, this book provides you with a real working recipe that allows you to emotionally connect and have the audience love you for it. Although this formula works for any kind of performance, Barbershoppers please take special note. Want to understand the mysteries of the Performance Category? This 83 page book that can be read in two hours holds the key.

I am a musical theatre performer who has recently returned to show biz after taking a number of years off to have kids, etc. I have always been an actress with a great voice but have seriously fallen into the habit of "winging it" at auditions and not REALLY fully engaging myself in the words, just touching on the surface, and while giving "natural" performances, probably ones that have lacked real depth and interest. Here's a big THANK YOU to David Brunetti for writing this book! After reading it (in one sitting, it's that good) I see what I have somehow forgotten to do with my songs. Brunetti so brilliantly and understandably puts into words exactly what I must do to achieve the performance that I know I'm capable of giving. His easy to follow steps are spot on and as I started working on a new piece this morning, I was already brought to tears while experiencing the real truth of the words. It is wonderful that this NYC based master coach is sharing what he knows with all of us via this wonderful book. It also contains great interviews with some of New York's leading directors and casting directors. You get insight into what the folks behind the desks are thinking about and looking for during your auditions. Invaluable!

Good advice and concepts. I purchased this to help in my role as a performance coach, and found a lot of useful ideas here. Brunetti's main ideas are generally accessible and applicable for the amateur performer, though a few are a little over the top. Appropriate length and amount of detail, not too heavy on the personal anecdotes.

As both a theater teacher and performer, I find this little book to be a nice addition to my library. Lots of great general advice and explanations to make for a better performance, along with some showbiz quotes.

Exactly what I needed to help with the new category in barbershop.

A wonderful book! Simple, but true!

"Acting Songs" is full of great examples that strengthens the understanding of how to tell a story when you sing. It's written in a simple language, which gives you the opportunity only to focus on the meaning of the book. There is a lot of great tools in it. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in performing, especially within musical.
