The Fourth Edition of Essential Microbiology for Dentistry provides a brief but an essential overview of General Microbiology and Basic Immunology to the Dental students and General and Specialist Dental Practitioners before embarking on Dental specific Microbes.
A written and pictorial description of Diagnostic and Laboratory methods gives a clear picture of diagnostic tools used to identify microbes and test efficacy of different antimicrobials.
Every chapter on Specific Microbes with relevance to Dental health and Dentistry begins with characteristics of bacteria, their habitat, and transmission followed by Identification methods, pathogenicity, treatment, and prevention.
This book has a unique feature such as Key Facts highlighting essential points at the end of the chapter. Also, Review Questions can help students of microbiology to prepare Dental Microbiology section for board exams.
The tables presented in this book can be used for quick review by a beginner in Dental microbiology, for example, an overview of sites of a contagious spread of dentoalveolar infection and microbes commonly isolated from dentoalveolar abscesses. A section explaining different infections with their relevancy to dentistry provides a succinct but in-depth explanation that might be unfamiliar for some Dentists.
The final part of this book contains must know information on Infection control principles and procedures in dentistry, with an answer to the review questions. The glossary listed at the very end of this book provides a short explanation of many medical microbiological terms that might be unfamiliar for some readers.
