William S. Stephenson, ed. British Security Coordination: The Secret .

William S. British Security Coordination: The Secret History of British Intelligence in the Americas 1940-1945. New York: Fromm International Publishing, 1998. In 1945 Stephenson received a knighthood in the New Year's Honours List for his service. Nigel West, an historian of security matters, author of three dozen books, and Member of Parliament, writes the "Introduction" to this 1998 publication. He is a most appropriate choice for this sometimes "ceremonial" action, but his astute essay does not constitute the ceremonial prefacing remarks one might expect.

The British ran intelligence and propaganda operations in the US beginning in 1940. Because the US was still a neutral country, the operations were illegal but were winked at by US officials. After the war a complete report was prepared, and while it's existence was often rumored, it remained secret, in only ten copies, until recently. Military historian Stephenson quotes The British ran intelligence and propaganda operations in the US beginning in 1940.

British Security Co-ordination (BSC) was a covert organisation set up in New York City by the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in May 1940 upon the authorisation of the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill. Its purpose was to investigate enemy activities, prevent sabotage against British interests in the Americas, and mobilise pro-British opinion in the Americas.

Nazi forces sweep across the continent, with a British invasion likely only weeks away. Dr Tony Insall worked for more than thirty years in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and served in Nigeria, Hong Kong,China and Malaysia, before spending five years in Norway. Never before has a resistance movement been so crucial to the war effort. Here, historian Tony Insall reveals how some of the most striking– but little-known – achievements of the Norwegian resistance were the detailed reports produced by SIS agents living in the dangerous conditions of the country’s desolate wilderness.

Gave me the info I needed about an aunt's secret intelligence activities in USA during WW2. But NOT an easy read; see Kirkus Associates review.

This book reveals "that Britain was engaged in a far broader -- and more cynical -- attempt to manipulate the United States in the two years before Pearl Harbor than had been previously been revealed." This was "a masterful covert-action program -- arguably the most effective in history. And by drawing the United States out of isolationism and into the web of British secret operations in a global war, it changed America forever..."

Some of the techniques put into place by William Stephenson (the Stephenson of A Man Called Intrepid) while happily ensconced in Rockefeller Center included exposing Axis spies, planting propaganda in US news outlets, slipping beautiful female agents into the Vichy and Italian embassies in Washington, infiltrating American labor unions, harassing political enemies in Congress, and feeding false rumors to American columnists.

This information -- compiled by three of Stephenson's deputies in 1945 -- was not released to the public for many years.

This book was introduced by Nigel West and it was done after World War II by Stephenson. It is a government report. The book is in chronilogical order, meaning it is in order the way things happened. It starts when a Canadien arrives in New York city and.....
