Jon Muth expressively portrays the setting and characters of this understated story by Amy Hest. His use of soft watercolors and perspective help communicate the nature of the relationship between Harry and George. They are the perfect accompaniment to Amy Hest’s first person telling through Harry’s point of view. Hest winningly captures Harry’s young voice providing a deeper, broader view his friendship with George.

I've been a huge fan of Jon Muth's art since discovering the Moonshadow comic/graphic novel decades ago. That being said, I picked this up for the visuals alone but ended up enjoying the story. It's a couple years ahead of my 3 year old children, but it held their attention long enough for a couple reads. It's an equally important and endearing theme that would do well to be repeated. For a children's book the wording doesn't quite flow as easily as I'd like in places, but A for effort & A+ for soul.

I love this book and so does my husband. It's beautifully illustrated and a poetic story. Toddler listened to it twice and liked the bus and leaves and picked up the drumming onomatopoeia.

This Is a wonderful story that is inter-generational. It is a great book to teach children about having a desire to learn to read. I highly recommend it for teachers and grandparents who want to share their love of reading with their grandchildren.

Used as part of a ReadWorks lesson for third graders with special needs. It was perfect for them and they were able to pick out character traits.
