If I didn't already care about Pryderi, Rhiannon and Manawydan, though, I don't know how much I would have loved this book. The retelling of the Second Branch is the strongest so far, and can stand alone, but this can't, to my mind.

I originally read this book along with the other 3 by Evangeline Walton (Isle of the Mighty, etc) during the 1970's. Besides the well written stories, I read them during a time when such fanciful distraction was so welcomed. I still marvel at the magic & imagination of these ancient people & I have re read them since those earlier days. Unable to locate in the house the original books that I bought, I was delighted to be able to order them again. The Song of Rhiannon arrived in good condition & I was pleased that the pages had yellowed because the book felt like I had not mis placed my earlier book. While watching Hidden & Hinterlands , crime shows from Wales, I heard references to the tales at times. The tales are classic.

Of the 4 books in this series I'd rate this as third best. I liked island of the mighty and children of llyr better but its still very good. The series as a whole is excellent.

I know the Mabinogion (in English) so it was fun to read this novelized version. The characters were more like people with their virtues & faults. The book itself was well-wrapped against the elements & in fine condition.

I was doing research on Welsh mythology, so I didn't actually buy the book strictly to read for enjoyment, but I liked the book well enough.

I really was very happy with the book Rhiannon! & Stevie Nicks is the only person
in my opinion that sings the song Rhiannon & Fleetwood Mac with the spiritual
energy that encompasses the book! Amazon did GREAT.

Thank you.
