Emily Klein's Diary is a coming of age novel with a contemporary voice. Emily is a believable and sympathetic character who will help readers understand what it is like to be overweight in junior high today. Emily Klein's Diary was not only insightful, it was a great read. I found it engaging, well written and provocative. The diary entries were spot on! I became so immersed in Emily's personal struggle that I found it difficult to put down.

Emily Klein's Diary was not only insightful, it was a great read. I found it engaging, well written and provocative. The diary entries were spot on! I became so immersed in Emily's personal struggle that I found it difficult to put down. This is a tough topic for most teens and parents and I think for any young person struggling with weight gain or any parent of a child dealing with these issues, this book is a must! I intend to buy a few more as gifts.

"Childhood obesity is one of the most pressing issues facing our nation. Through Emily Klein's Diary, Dr. Mary McGowan gives kids an easily identifiable perspective on an issue that too often isolates them from their peers. Emily's struggles with acceptance and her path to a healthier lifestyle offer children and adults alike a better understanding of the challenges of obesity and a model for an active approach in overcoming them."

While reading Emily Klein's Diary, I was struck by the enormous challenges overweight teens face in all aspects of their lives. Many thanks for Emily Klein's Diary!

"... an accurate, brilliant and true-to-life portrayal of the thoughts and feelings an obese young girl goes through in confronting and coping with the classic conflicts... it provides us a lesson in empathizing with their plight and in sharing their hopes, goals and dreams. The book, especially the idea of the Fit Café, will attract movie producers!"

"Emily Klein's Diary is a wonderful book about a teenage girl's battle with obesity. Emily faces the physical, social, and emotional challenges that overweight children and adolescents face every day. In our present society, in which obesity has become too prevalent, Emily Klein's Diary should be read by all pre-teens and teenagers. Not only are the messages and lessons very important for everyone, Emily Klein's Diary is a gem, a fun book to read."

Jeffrey J. Boxer, M.D.

"This book is like nothing I've ever read - it is both factual and fun. It is an appealing way to learn about both people who are over and under weight - and what challenges they face. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it."
