Albert was an educated, artistic and insightful man, who worked tirelessly to ensure that the British monarchy was not aloof from the people, but an institution that existed to champion and support them.

While establishing Albert's importance, Weintraub provides illuminating details of the private life and daily routine of the royal couple. Their strong physical attraction for each other and their mutual enthusiasm for eroticism in painting and sculpture were combined with a sincere commitment to higher moral standards at court and in public. While providing a window into the private lives of 19th-century royalty, Weintraub also makes a critical historical point about the adaptation of the monarchy to the demands of a more democratic age.

Informative. Well written. Highly enjoyable, if you are looking for nonfiction, as opposed to a historical docu-drama. An engaging tale of an amazing life.

This book is very well written. I love the depth with which Mr. Weintraub describes Albert, his family, his connections, and his morals. This is my favorite non-fiction biography, ever. If you are a lover of the Victorian era, or if your interest is piqued due to the popularity of Queen Victoria and Albert, this book is a great read for you. I will say that this is not a book that you can breeze through without being attentive. Wonderful book. I'd buy it again just to have a second copy.

Vrion
the standard on Prince Albert we should all read this and aspire to be such men.

I absolutely loved this book. I have been following Victoria on PBS and am so intrigued by their lives. I would love to find a book on Prince Alberts brother Ernest. his autobiography if possible.

Wow, what a treat! A meaty, exhaustively researched biography that reads like a juicy novel, I couldn't put it down. Weintraub paints a superbly detailed and intimate portrait of Albert that both informs and leaves the reader with a deep affection for his subject. I bought this book recently for my father, an avid bookworm, as a birthday present and he is devouring it with relish. I got a copy for my brother-in-law, an award-winning history teacher, as well. A must-read for anyone interested in European and British history, art and culture, Albert had a much more far-reaching effect on his age than he has been acknowledged for. I came away with a much better understanding of the world during the Victorian era than from just about any other book on the period that I have read (and I read a lot!). Well worth the cover price!

English historybuffs will enjoy this book. Gret insight into V&A marriage and collaborations for improving the conditions of the poor. Great love story, too.

The first half of this book is totally confusing. It jumps from subject to subject and is VERY difficult to follow. The second half is satisfactory. If you have a choice of another biography of Prince Albert, I would strongly suggest that you buy it.

In excellent condition as stated. Nice quality binding and paper. I order this biogragphy and one of Queen Victoria by Weintraub on the recommendation of the reviewer Mama on the go (rocky mountains) who she mentioned in her excellent review of the movie, "Young Victoria", a terrific film. Jeanie
