Seaside boasts a rich history. Format: Postcard Pack. Author. In this collection of vintage-photograph postcards, Carol Lynn McKibben and the Seaside History Project explore the city's past.

Seaside's local history is unique and in many ways a microcosm of the ethnic mosaic that is California. Situated on the Monterey Bay, this working-class community of approximately 33,000 was incorporated in 1954; it was a typical military town, tied to Fort Ord, until the closure of the base in 1994. Seaside was home to a variety of ethnic groups, but after World War II, the city experienced a surge of immigration by African Americans associated with the military. Today the city is witness to another demographic shift symbolic of the state's changing face, as Mexican immigrants and their children now form the largest minority group in Seaside. Over the years, the city has continued to grow and attract new residents and visitors with its friendly community and striking coastal location.

Good information! Nice to see my family in the photos, however, most are listed as unidentified. A beautiful picture of my mom's wedding is in the book with my great grandmother, grandmother, aunt, uncle and other family members. My mom lives with me and is really enjoying the book. Unfortunately, her first name is misspelled, which she keeps pointing out to me. The book has her as Murietta, it should be Maryetta. My mom was Maryetta Bradley (her mom married William Ratliff) they moved to the Monterey Peninsula around 1942, when she was 12. She attended Walter Colton Jr. High and Monterey High School. After my mom raised her family, she/we left in 1975, and now reside in Elk Grove, which is in the Sacramento area. I am the youngest of her 6 children, and am blessed to be living a very fulfilling life; as are my 5 siblings. Thank you Carol for all of your research, dedication and most importantly, for publishing this book for the rest of us... Holly ([email protected])

My sister bought me this book because I love our local history and I couldn’t put it down. The house we grew up in 1025 Kimball is in the book and we discovered it was an old dairy. This and so many other places and people make this book a must have for anyone who appreciates this beautiful area we call home. Thank you Dr. Mckibben for keeping alive the history of Seaside.
