Haleiwa is a place in time. Visitors to this picturesque one-hundred-year-old plantation town are almost always struck by the charm of its comfortable storefront buildings, the easygoing pace of its residents, and the town s friendly aloha spirit. This book captures that spirit. It traces Haleiwa all the way from the thatched-hut roots of the original Polynesian settlers, through the early years of the Hawaiian kingdom, into the fields of Waialua Sugar Plantation, into the elegant drawing rooms of the Haleiwa Hotel, right up to the emergence of Haleiwa Town as today s surfing capital of Hawaii ... arguably the worlds surf city. This story is told with photos that are, in some cases, over one hundred years old. Alongside these historic photos, brilliant state-of-the-art color photography brings present-day Haleiwa and the North Shore of Oahu to vibrant life. The authors have tried hard to capture the sight and feel of a town and an area that represents country to the people of Oahu. Haleiwa is a town that is truly a place in time.

I was in Haleiwa a few years ago. This is really a must see when you go to the North Shore. All the surf board shops. Must have shave Ice at Motemoto.

If you love O'ahu and the country town of Hale'iwa this is the perfect pictorial treat. There is information in here from Waimea bay and valley, sharks cove, Anahulu stream and rainbow bridge, Shave ice, surfing, Pua'ena point & kawailoa Air field and their role on December 7th and some local history. The pictures are from current to the late 1800's. Overall a cool book for a special place.

My husband and I have lived in Waialua (near Hale'iwa)for 38 years. This book is a memory book for us of a place and time that we dearly cherish. The pictures alone are a treasure, and descriptions are added bonus. As a part of their cultural heritage, we have sent copies to each of our children who grew up here on the North Shore of Oahu, but have gone to the Mainland to live. Surely, visitors to our area would also find it very interesting and a nice keepsake of their visit to Hawaii. Hopefully, this book will soon appear in every bookshop in the Islands, but we were pleased to find it now at Amazon.com.
