Octogenarian Albert Honig's most constant companions have always been his bees. Deeply acquainted with the workings of hives, Albert is less versed in the ways of people, especially his friend Claire, whose presence and absence in his life have never been reconciled. When Claire is killed during a burglary gone wrong, Albert is haunted by the loss and by the secrets and silence that hovered between them for so long.

An entertaining mystery with two of my favorite settings, Maine and Ireland, this second novel in the series isn't quite as good as the first, but it's right up there. The illegal arms trade (Donovan) and illicit art (Sharpe) come together improbably in Heron's Cove. The two protagonists are still getting to know each other in what a psychologist might call the post-chemistry phase of a relationship, adding romantic interludes to an otherwise tense story, with the romance creating some tensions too. The eeriness of the settings adds to the suspense.
Neggars' main characters are complex and interesting. I wanted to know a wee bit more about the proposed recipients of the illegal arms, though. That and a few other loose threads that weren't tied up took away some of the enjoyment. Sharpe's grandfather is a character with a few more stories to tell, I'm sure. Enough action, but this is a true mystery, not a thriller.

Lost Python
Boring, Slow and if they mention that she was a nun or he was a fisherman ONE MORE TIME! It dragged. The story wanted to be good and could have been if it had proper editing. Too repetitious. Too long between meaningful dialog and events. If I were her Lit. teacher I'd say go back and pull it together. The first book was pretty good , This one not so much. Maybe the 3rd one will be better.

I keep reading Carla Neggers' books and wonder why everytime. She is so repetitive - its like she was a Soap Opera writer - continuously referencing the same events over & over for lapsed readers. I understand that a little of that is necessary for a series, but she does it with the same books. The speech patterns are meant to be closed New Englanders, and she delivers on that, but it
just is a bit much and frankly awkward. Its a shame, because she has great story lines, inviting characters.

Hidden Winter
It's a good thing that Carla Neggers brings out two or three books each year (including reprints of her earliest ones). This author of 65 novels provides a suspense story where -- brace yourself -- hard work, persistence, and loyalty, along with careful detection, will usually win. Emma Sharpe, art detective and FBI specialist, isn't yet sure her new and tentative relationship with fellow agent Colin Donovan is going to work. When the two collide from different angles, investigating a jewel heist, the tension between them is almost as suspenseful as the real risks they undertake. I've read this one twice and it stays on the shelf for another re-read, some tough week when I need reassurance that things have the potential to get better.

I have read Carla Negger's books for many years and have enjoyed all of them. This one is a sequel to Saint's Gate, but if you haven't read the previous book you won't have any trouble following this one. It covers part of Donovan's absence that started at the end of the Saint's Gate and the resulting aftermath. There are many twists and turns to the mystery and the difficulty of the main players to settle into a relationship. It covers a lot of ground and keeps you interested. There is always some humor in her books to lighten up the sometimes intense suspense of the mystery. I often keep on reading and find it very difficult to put her books down. This one was no exception.

Love Me
i had read book one of this series sometime back and it did help knowing the background with this book. Emma an ex-nun, art specialist, and now FBI agent and Colin also an FBI agent make an unlikely pair. It has a good plot, with good secondary characters. I enjoyed the book and already decided to buy the next book in the series.

I loved this book as it took me back to New England where I grew up. But visiting some old Maine villages was a wonderful place to continue the series. Carla Neggers sizzles your emotions as she runs with her story. Another great one.
And now? I am so excited to be seeing my grandfather's homeland! I visited Ireland 14 years ago, and looking forward to revisiting the area where I was because that was home to "grand-da".

This is a great series! I started by reading a sample of Declan's Cross and really liked the sample. Since Heron's Cove is the second in the series, I decided to start with Book 1 and have since read all three books in the series. Emma and Colin are characters that I enjoy as well as Father Fin and the Donovan brothers. These books give you mystery as well as romance. I look forward to the fourth book in the series which comes out soon. I hope there will be many more Sharpe and Donovan books.
