This is a nice collection of stories. There is a degree of torment & depression in many of the tales, but you just need to think about the era when they were written & appreciate how our lives have changed. It's hard to think about reading these to our young children. I prefer more up-beat stories with happy endings. He is a cherished author of yesteryear. Just as everyone should read Dickens for the historical value, everyone should read these stories just the same.

Lots of sad stories. The Little Match Girl is a classic. Some of the stories, like The Little Fir Tree was just weird. It dragged on with no great message or climax. It ended very sad, but then, there was no real happy part of it either. I haven't read all the stories yet though. I mostly wanted this for the Little Match Girl Christmas Story.

Hans Christian Andersen wrote enough fairy tales to fill approximately one-thousand pages. This has some of the best. They're not all great, but enough of them are that this is a great value as a Kindle download.

Frankly, Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales are boring, depressing, gruesome, or all three. But if you'd like to read them anyway, then this book contains the following stories:

The Fir Tree
Little Tuk
The Ugly Duckling
Little Ida's Flowers
The Steadfast Tin Soldier
Little Thumbelina
Sunshine Shoes
The Darning-Needle
The Little Match Girl
THe Loving Pair
The Leaping Match
The Happy Family
The Greenies
Ole-Luk-Oie, The Dream God
The Money Box
Elder-Tree Mother
The Snow Queen
The Roses and The Sparrows
The Old House
The Conceited Apple Branch

There is also the Second Series: Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales Second Series, or Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen, which has pretty much all of his stories.

Wonderful fairy tales. I remember some short movies based on some of these tales. Great fables and stories that have a solid message behind them.

Got this because I love the old classics!

Classic children's stories from another age. This is a decent copy of them and includes a couple of less well known stories within the collection.

I always love fairy tales, the ones that are more grown up. I've heard good things about Hans Andersen's fairy tales. This book exceeds my expectations. Very beautifully written.
