Barbara Janice Hanrahan (1939–1991) was an Australian artist, printmaker and writer whose work featured relationships, women, women's issues and feminist ideology.

Barbara Janice Hanrahan (1939–1991) was an Australian artist, printmaker and writer whose work featured relationships, women, women's issues and feminist ideology. Hanrahan was also known for her writings and short stories that featured coming of age stories that were somewhat biographical. Barbara Hanrahan was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1939. After her father's death at the age of 26 from tuberculosis in 1940, when Hanrahan was just a year old.

Barbara Hanrahan was educated at Thebarton Girls' Technical College before commencing a three year Art Teaching course at Adelaide Teachers' College. At the same time she completed art classes at the South Australian School of Art. Following the completion of her Diploma of Art Teaching, Hanrahan began teaching art in schools as well as enrolling for evening classes with the newly established Printmaking Department at the South Australian School of Art.

Barbara Janice Hanrahan was an Australian artist, printmaker and writer whose work mostly revolved around the roles of and relationships between women. Her first exhibition was at the Contemporary Art Society Gallery in Adelaide in December 1964. Hanrahan always combined writing with visual arts She kept a diary in her late teenage years and then again in London to make sense of a strange city. The book was published in 1973. Her last work of fiction was Michael and Maine and the Sun, which was published in 1992 after her death from cancer.
