The welded joint of steel pipes produced by two-pass double sided submerged arc welding (SAW) consisted of the weld metal (WM), heat affected zone (HAZ) and base metal (BM) and as a result the welded joint is characterized by a wide range of different microstructures. This microstructural heterogeneity of the welded joint cause substantial differences on the toughness behaviour of the welded joint.
