Originally Floppy made his first appearance in stage one but the authors have somewhat found a way around this by re-writing all these books in the past tense, the originals were in the simple present tense. Apart from my griping about the changes from the original these are fantastic books for young kids and are wonderfully illustrated, (although the Irish setter in "A New Dog" has been replaced by something else).

Alex Brychta has drawn cartoons from an early age and has devoted many years of his career to the Oxford Reading Tree. Publisher: Oxford University Press (January 10, 2008).

The teaching notes for the Oxford Reading Tree Biff, Chip and Kipper books are full of practical suggestions for using the storybooks, saving you hours of preparation time. They have been updated in line with the simple view of reading and the renewed Primary Framework for Literacy. They now include guidance for group/guided reading, comprehension and word recognition, and assessment. These replace the existing Teaching Notes and Guided Reading Cards. The storybooks are unchanged, but notes for parents/carers and teaching assistants have been added to the inside covers. These notes replace the existing Take-Home Cards.

This book is one of several that goes through the life of a family (mom, dad, chip, biff, kipper and floppy the dog). My daughter loved reading this series as it gave her a chance to learn more about the family in different scenarios. The books progressively get harder over time, i.e. length, word difficulty. For this particular book, it's about the family who is looking at a new house to buy so each child looks at a different room and and says "I like this room." It uses repetition to reinforce vocabulary, which is very handy when a child is learning to read. Additionally, each book has a set of tips on how to read the books and words to look for or words that it is reinforcing, i.e. like. This book is from the UK, so during the series, it will use "mum" instead of "mom." I found this book and series to be useful when I was reading to my daughter when she was little, and when she first started reading at 4, as it was the perfect length for emerging readers.
