As I am interested in starting a longarm quilting business, I have read as many "starting your own quilting business" books as I can. I almost didn't purchase this one, I am ashamed to say, because the cover didn't look as glossy and professional as the others and I assumed it wouldn't contain any additional information. I was wrong. This is a WONDERFUL book. She tells you plainly some of the thing you need to do for a successful business that many artsy folks tend to want to push aside or neglect. Before I read this book, I was thinking that there was a hole in the quilting business books as most of them didn't have enough information on the business end (and it IS a business, if you plan to make money with it!). This book fills that hole. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to start a quilting business. There are no glossy pictures of longarms or instructions on how to load a quilt, but what there is will help you make a successful business out of doing what you love.

If you're thinking about starting your own quilting business this is the book to get you started. You probably haven't thought of all the things you need to do to start a business. What you need to have to get financing plus how much it actually takes to start a quilting business. Some info applies to starting any business while some is specific to a quilting business. Or even a crafting business would benefit from the info.

This will definitely help you get started.

I am in the process of beginning a professional business in the quilting industry. This book is an excellent resource which I plan to keep around as a reference for a long tim. It is well organized, well written, and professional ... and the author stresses the need for a high-quality work product and professional demeanor for all those considering a business in quilting. Halleleujah! I am weary of purchasing books, patterns, and products with mediocre to shoddy quality (poor writing, poor directions, poor workmanship respectively). These sub-standard offerings have been marketed at high prices! Hopefully, Ms. Landman's advice will affect enough people in the industry that poor quality offerings will no longer be tolerated but will be crowded out by high-quality, professional excellence.

I purchased this book because I was looking for a guide to assist me in writing a business plan for my hobby-to-business venture. I'm taking a business class and wanted something specific to quilting. I couldn't be more pleased. I have purchased two other books that will likely end up in the donation box. This book, however, will become my bible. Sylvia walks the reader through writing a business plan, what things to consider when starting a business, how to think like an entrepreneur, and how to enjoy the process. Kudos for a well written book. I will admit I was a bit concerned because it's a 10-year-old publication. However, other than a reference to $7/yard fabric (which made me smile), I think it hits the mark. Thanks for a well written book.

This has very good information. Good solid financial points for someone to consider. Very helpful if this is something you are considering!

It is very informative. I can use all the help I can get to help me price my quilts. Thanks.

This book is a very comprehensive source for anyone who wants to make money in any type of home-based quilting business. I recently started my own art business and this what most of my quilts will be. So, the details of how I operate my business will be a little different from what Landman describes, but I don't think I could have found a better source for the start-up information I need.
