Dillys Big Sister Diary book. Dilly is about to get a new baby brother and her mom gives her a diary in which to record her feelings.

Dillys Big Sister Diary book. Oh boy, Dilly is a dilly, but readers learn much about babies between the lines and the laughing.

I loved reading Dilly's big sister diary as as child. I still enjoyed it, rereading it as an adult. When I found out there were two more books, I was excited to read them. The problem I have with this book is while it is funny, dilly is a cruel character, calling the one girl in her cabin queer, and saying the other girl has a big bottom. Dilly doesn't really grow much as a character in the three books. She continues being mean. She never even evaluates her choices or things going on in her or her friends lives, like Amelia does in the Amelia's notebook series or Melanie Martin.

Dilly is about to get a new baby brother and her room gives her a diary in which to record her feelings. Oh boy, Dilly is a dilly, but we readers learn much about babies between the lines and the laughing. A great book for big sisters and parents alike! By Thriftbooks. com User, June 28, 2000. I love this book! It is so clever - it is designed like a notebook, and the idea is that Dilly's mom gave it to her when the baby was born so that she could have a place to write her feelings about being a big sister. This book is not sappy; rather, it's realistic. At the beginning, Dilly doesn't like the new baby, but by the time he's a year old, she loves him!

Bought this for our nine year old daughter as we are expecting our second child. Our daughter LOVED the story and the "journal" format. Our daughter read the book so quickly - we were sorry to see it finish.

My almost-4-year-old loved this book and we read it many times as baby got older. The book is a fresh journal format, but it was so relatable for my daughter to hear from someone else who was having trouble adjusting to baby when the whole world seems to think baby is the Best Thing Ever, and parents are tired and busy. It acknowledges Dilly's negative feelings and charts the arc of her adjustment with humor. She learns she is good at being a big sister, a lot of the hard stuff is temporary, and there are big fun parts, too.
Our baby is now 2.5, and I asked daughter to lend it to a friend having a baby, but was told it's her "favorite book" and she just can't take the risk of it not coming back, so here we are on Amazon. I know they will love it and you will too.
