This is a good book, however, it is not as good as the original, older series of books from the 1990's.

My 9 year old niece loves American Girl and mysteries. This is the perfect combo, and she ADORES Kirsten. She has already requested the rest of this series.

My grand-daughter loves the American Girl doll, Kirsten. She also is an avid reader. For her 11th birthday, not only did she get this book, she got the Kirsten doll, doll bed and quilt. She was so surprised and happy.

I was expecting something more like a Nancy Drew story, but this was a rather dull read at least through the first chapter, which I never got past. Additionally, the writing style seemed almost autogenerated, as though no one cared about odd word choices or awkward sentence structure. I know this series is trying to mix light history with mystery, but somehow the idea of story and character was lost in this mix.
