"I'm not going out there," declares the little boy in this hilarious, rhyming story. But what is frightening him? It's not the dragon breathing smoke in the living room. Or the ghost snacking on toast and chocolate in the kitchen. The witches in the bathroom are too busy washing their dirty underwear to bother anyone. And the monsters performing ballet exercises in the bedroom aren't at all terrifying. But something in the house is very scary. And it's coming this way . . . This is now one of my granddaughter's favorite stories. We Skype at bedtime a day or two a week and this is one of two most requested stories. The illustrations are creative and funny and colorful. She still doesn't "get" why someone would be so mad about a spider being in her shoe, but she thinks it's great that the boy, the monsters, dragon, etc. are hiding together from the scary sister.

This is an adorable story. The children I've read it to have really enjoyed it. The art of the illistrations are wonderful ! Bold colors and very detailed. The flow of the writing is really great as well.

My 2 1/2 year old son absolutely loved this book. The illustrations are great and the theme and sing-song quality of the writing make it so much fun to read. We took it out from the library but I intend to buy it so we can read it again and again. I would definitely recommend this book...especially if your child is starting to talk about monsters and such, because those topics are dealt with in such a fun, silly way.

I can't believe that nobody has reviewed this book yet! My boys absolutely love the way the author turns a phrase in this book about a little boy hiding out from something that is very scary. The tone of this book is very upbeat and all of the scary creatures are described in very fun ways that make them sound a lot less scary.

I definitely recommend this book for any child!
