Goblin Market (composed in April 1859 and published in 1862) is a narrative poem by Christina Rossetti. The poem tells the story of Laura and Lizzie who are tempted with fruit by goblin merchants. In a letter to her publisher, Rossetti claimed that the poem, which is interpreted frequently as having features of remarkably sexual imagery, was not meant for children. However, in public Rossetti often stated that the poem was intended for children, and went on to write many children's poems

This book only has ONE of Arthur Rackham's four color prints. If you want a better choice that is also hardcover, get the Dover Fine Art version.

This marvelous story poem, written by a woman deeply embedded in religious life, can be read on many levels, some quite earthy. Redeemed by a sister's love (and what kind of love?) the sinner's life again becomes whole. Or maybe it's just a story of goblins trading in the forest... The Arthur Rackham drawings accompany the story as beautifully as he intended. If you think all Victorians were prissy and frilly, give Goblin Market a look.

This is a classic poem beautifully illustrated. It would be best appreciated by older children and ageless adults.

I really like fantasy books and this was really good. I love Arthur Rackham's artwork and add that to Christina Rossetti's poetry, you can't lose. Also since this is from Dover Publications that is a plus. The hardback edition is more than I normally like to spend for books, but classics like this are well worth the extra money because you'll keep it forever.

This edition is horrible. It has no line breaks. Apparently, Amazon doesn't think the original line breaks are necessary to a poem. All poems should just have the same formatting as prose because it doesn't change anything. That seems to at least be the attitude of Amazon.

If you want a good copy, I suggest you find another site that provides free public domain e-books. There are quite a few.

As well written as I remember

My two girls love the poem Goblin Market for bed time reading--a beautiful, engaging, and fun poem expressing the love and dedication, the bond, that should exist between sisters.
