My theology is mostly fundamental but this is unsatisfying in many ways as it leaves some dissonance that started very early in my Christian walk when I noticed apparent Halfway through. While the book may be a little dated now, it's still an excellent book to help clarify theological issues of the last two centuries of Protestant thought. Great Introduction to theology. Published by Thriftbooks. Simple, but not simplistic.

This is a book on Christian theology, not a comparative religions text, but it does cover the main branches of Christianity, looking at modern theology based upon personality, geography, and theological approach. The second through fourth sections look at theologies based on geography - theology from Britain, theologies of North America (arguably one of the primary centres of theology as we enter the twenty-first century), and theologies from Latin America, Africa, and Asia, essential untapped domains with strong potential, perhaps poised to surpass the traditional Western lands as the realm of creative and.

I would like to rate the book higher, because I do appreciate and collect old hardback books, and because the price was excellent. However, I did not anticipate receiving a fourth edition (1956) for a class where a revised edition in the current century would have been preferrable. Some type of information in the used marketplace that includes years or editions would have helped tremendously!

I was introduced to this book by my pastor, who used it as a seminary textbook. Don't let the ugly cover and mass-market paperback format fool you: this is surely the most readable and compact exposition of Protestant theology from Luther to the late 20th century that you will find. It's even-handed, good-tempered, and refreshingly free of fads and axe-grinding.
