A CBA Bestselling Author -- To the FBI it's a cold case. To Kariss Walker it's a hot idea that could reshape or ruin her writing career. Five years ago, a little girl was found starved to death in the woods behind a Houston apartment complex. Kariss reported on the terrifying case as a TV news anchor. Today, as a bestselling author, she intends to turn the unsolved mystery into a suspense novel. With the help of FBI agent Tigo Harris, Kariss gets the case reopened and makes a dangerous discovery.

At first, I felt as if the book was a slow start. It seemed too much emphasis was on detailing the characters. As I ventured further into the book, however, I was glad I knew those characters so well. The details helped set the stage for understanding the characters decisions, who they were and how they became who they were. I loved that the characters weren’t perfect. They were often vulnerable u Dee their tough exterior. The issue of faith was not preachy, but instead revealed the character of God. God is patient and loving, and calls us to Him, meeting us where we are. This story was full of suspense, insight into the world of gangs, and romance...to be continued. That the story was based on truth is heartbreaking, but at the same time, it shows that most law enforcement really do work hard for justice, and their hearts are affected by the evil, especially that done to children.

Kariss Walker is an ex-TV news anchor-turned novelist who wants to move from women's fiction into suspense against the wishes of her agent. But she has a long-held desire to protect the children, and an unsolved crime from her TV days is calling to her. She calls in a favour and finds herself working in the Houston FBI office with Special Agent Santiago Harris (Tigo), reopening the Cherished Doe case. But Kariss is soon involved in Tigo's gang case, and things only get worse when Kariss witnesses a shooting and finds herself a target.

Christian Romantic Suspense is my favourite genre, and The Chase ticks all the boxes - likeable and intelligent heroine, hardworking and heroic hero, with a lot of action, some humour, a growing relationship, a strong cast of supporting characters and an underlying Christian theme.

This book shows real heart, and the necessary need for research to compile a interesting, can't wait to read some more book. Excitement is laced into every chapter. The characters are believable. The setting trying at times...
I recommend this book and look forward to DiAnn Mills next story in this series I give a 5 rating; unusual for me. Every emotion comes to life in this story! Thanks DiAnn.

There are times when an author just puts her all into a novel and comes up with a winner. This happens in DiAnn Mills book, "The Chase."
I really was quickly drawn in to the first chapter as she shared her plan to become a suspense writer after already having written some award winning women's novels of romance. Kariss Walker layed out her plan, and it involved getting the death of a young child's case reopened by the FBI. She wanted not only for the cold case to be revived, but she wanted to learn how the FBI was going to work on the case and write down all the ideas she learned to put in her suspense book.
Kariss got a lot more than she originally bargained for in developing her story while working beside the FBI agents. She got kidnapped by one of t he gangs. She almost lost her life. I was intrigued from the first ugly thing that actually happened to her. Nothing I would ever expect to happen if I was writing a story really did happen to her. She experienced physical pain and other gut wrenching experiences.
She was struggling with her beliefs in God, but I think this story showed her how real God actually became through all the scary experiences.
I gave her five stars for the fine story and interesting characters she developed. It was a clean book--one I would recommend to teens on up.

DiAnn Mills is a very good writer. This is the first book I have read of hers. The Chase is well researched and believable. Kariss and Tigo are well defined characters. Some times, though, I found myself shaking my head at the chances Kariss took and the trouble she got herself into as well as putting Tigo and a major undercover FBI operation in danger. With her experience and intelligence, I kept thinking she should know better-still all works out. How Kariss finds her way back to God, and truly believing in Him is well done. Here's hoping that Tigo opens myself up to having a personal relationship with the Lord - not because of the promise he made to his now deceased mother or for Kariss but for himself. The Chase is filled with suspense and difficult to put down.
And... perhaps the beginning of a romance between Kariss and Tigo?
So glad there is a book 2. Off to read it now! You will enjoy The Chase if you like "clean" fast- paced suspense with a hint of romance or a romance to come.

I enjoyed this book. Kariss is a former news anchor, now bestselling romance novelist She has decided to change genera against the judgment of her publicist and wants to do a mystery/suspense. She wants to solve the murder of Cherish Doe, a little girl who was killed and no one has ever found any solid leads on. She is to shadow Tigo and learn about the FBI from him and she hopes, talk him into opening Cherish's case again.
I liked the two main characters. Kariss was smart, opinionated and very good at what she puts her mind to. Tigo is almost a 'one-track mind' but he is loving and caring. He is a loner and sometimes doesn't seem to think things through but he is an amazing FBI agent. I loved how the two of them first saw each other, that was amusing to say the least. My heart broke for the little girl's story and how heartless some people are.
I rate this a 4/5. It was a good, clean read.

Thank you to Zondervan for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Considering the fact that this is only the second review, and I started reading the book the moment is was downloaded, I guess I'm a fast reader. But this is a book that you can't put down. I didn't read it so fast that I didn't enjoy it, though. You will want to savor each plot turn and twist. I appreciated the fact that the book seemed realistic. So many times, in some books, the plot nor the characters seem very plausible. But this book has a lot of human element. Both of the main characters don't fall in love and jump into bed immediately~~that's not DiAnn's style. Thank goodness! This book was well researched and it shows. If you enjoy Christian suspense, then you'll really enjoy this book. It has Christian undertones but isn't "preachy".
