As pastor Jeff Schreve says, A specific and compelling message can be found in each of your negative, painful emotions. God Himself is trying to speak to you through those emotions-right now. So what is God saying? How can we understand our emotions-even change them? Schreve shows how the truth of the Bible can make sense of our confusion.

Runaway Emotions book. Specific emotions covered are: embarrassment, loneliness, frustration, worry, anger, guilt Why You Feel the Way You Do and What God Wants You to Do About It. One thing that I loved about this book right away is that he considers emotions to be like symptoms, in the same way a doctor would look at symptoms. I have long thought that about feelings myself so this book confirmed that for me. Not only does the author talk about emotional symptoms, he provides the diagnosis and prescription for each one.

If we pay attention to the alarms in our lives, they could save us.

Worry. Anger. Loneliness. Negative emotions are uncomfortable by design. Like any good fire alarm, they alert us to a greater danger. But they won’t help us if we try to cover them up, hide them behind excuses, or assume they will always plague us.

The only healthy way to manage negative emotions is to find their source and address the problem that set them off. As pastor Jeff Schreve says, “A specific and compelling message can be found in each of your negative, painful emotions. God Himself is trying to speak to you through those emotions―right now.”

So what is God saying? How can we understand our emotions―even change them? Schreve shows how the truth of the Bible can make sense of our confusion. The power of the Holy Spirit can lead us to freedom, and Jesus Christ can give us true peace in the midst of any crisis.

You don’t have to let your emotions run away with you, your family, or your future.

A good book on how to deal with emotions, especially those which usually seem to be deemed as "negative." Filled with stories and anecdotes, it makes for an interesting read. This book, however, is not written from a professional's opinion, but rather a pastor who is trying to provide biblical counsel to his parishioners who don't know how to respond to some of the things they experience. As a whole, a good book, especially if read along with something like "Emotionally-Healthy Spirituality" or "Voice of the Heart."

As I read each chapter (not in order but where I perceived my greatest needs first), I could relate to each one . It was as f he were talking directly to me. I was able to see where I was getting derailed, and more importantly how to get back on track. A must read for everyone.

As a pastor who deals daily with people and their emotions, i can honestly say how really ill equipped i have been to deal with this area, then i read Runaway Emotions. I learned more from Jeff about what God says about our emotions and how to deal with them from a biblical perspective than have ever previously understood or was able to apply. Jeff's writing style is clear, and shows how very deep he understands this topic. It has made a difference in my own personal life as i deal with the ups and downs of the emotional roller coaster which is ministry. Its a must read for pastors. It would also be great for small groups, or individual study.
